Forty Bayside participants joined as a team to honor Sarah Brittany Wirth, a 2005 graduate of Bayside who passed away on June 27, 2008. Operation Blessing International, headquartered in Virginia Beach, has been ranked as one of "America's 200 Largest Charities" as well as one of "America's Most Efficient Charities" by Forbes Magazine. It scored a perfect 100 percent rating in Fundraising Efficiency, one of the most-watched statistics. Also recently, the charity earned its fourth consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, a feat that only 6 percent of charities have achieved, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy ranked it as the 58th largest NGO and ninth largest international charity. The Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation has been awarded the Best Affordable Housing Development Award at the recent 2008 Housing Awards presented at the Governors Housing Conference. The Best Housing Development Award is presented each year for a housing development project that has shown innovation in addressing the needs of its targeted client population. Sweet Briar College announced the receipt of a recent unrestricted gift of $1.3 million from the estate of Frances Johnson Finley and James D. Finley II, formerly of Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Frances Finley was a 1937 graduate of Sweet Briar. James Finley was chairman of the board of Lowery D. Finley & Co. in Virginia Beach, then a family-owned insurance agency.
